Sony Ericsson - camera phone domination

By: Matt Sharp

During 2008, one company is intent on moulding the game of camera-enabled mobile phones. This manufacturer is Sony Ericsson, and they are determined to dominate not just the world in high-end camera phones, but bottom-end handsets, too!
Camera phones evolve - the Sony Ericsson legacy
It's fitting, really, that Sony Ericsson are the ones at the forefront of the coming paradigm shift amongst camera-equipped mobile phones. Come on, it was they who kicked it all off, long ago, in 2002. Lest we forget, they were the first manufacturer to unveil a mobile phone with a camera built in, within the British marketplace. That phone was the Sony Ericsson P800, but it didn't get the mass market penetration Sony Ericsson wanted, because an amazingly (compared to other mobile phones at the time) high-end smartphone. However, their most iconic device in history was about to be unveiled, and that one WOULD get huge mass market appeal. It was the Sony Ericsson T610, and it changed the playing field. There was a mobile that stood out amongst the crowd of all the rival mobile phones it was up against. It was small, it was slim, and people ADORED it. And, let us remember that the Sony Ericsson T610 also had a built-in camera, and that it was actually the first mobile to hit the wider audience, and make people think, 'Wait a sec, we really do want cameras in our mobile phones!'
Today, the market has diverged, into entry-level handsets, and top-end camera-equipped mobile phones; well, it's fair to say that Sony Ericsson want to be the lings of both!
Sony Ericsson S302 - snazzy and snappy
Say you want a Sony Ericsson camera phone, but not a mega-massive smartphone. If so, then the Sony Ericsson S302, the first phone to be announced in their brand new Snapshot series, is the perfect handset for you. It's a great little mobile, with a compact, sleek body, a marvellous screen, and a groovy little multimedia player. On top of that, despite this being classed amongst the ranks of entry-level mobile phones, the Sony Ericsson S302 is equipped with a great little 2 megapixel camera. Ok, it doesn't come with autofocus, but considering that it's a budget snapper, it's brilliant!
However, that's an entry-level mobile phone... how about if you need a handset that's got real muscle? how about if you want one of Sony Ericsson's Cyber-Shot line...?
Sony Ericsson C905 - the ultimate camera phone?
There's no denying power, and one thing is very clear: the Sony Ericsson C905's got vastly more raw power than any other mobile phones you'll come across in the UK. How come? Well, it's the first camera phone to be unveiled in the UK that has an 8 megapixel camera. Yup. EIGHT. That's a frighteningly massive pixel resolution, and it means that the Sony Ericsson C905 will let you take the absolute most jaw-dropping pictures you've ever experienced, from any camera-equipped mobile phone, ever. Oh, and on top of that, remember that Sony Ericsson have amped it up with Cyber-Shot technology, and that will make the pictures it produces so much more unbelievable. Add in a brilliant multimedia player, WiFi, HSDPA and built-in GPS, and you have to come to the conclusion that the Sony Ericsson C905 is, quite simply, the number one!
